The short version: The YipYappy app has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Your camera, face and microphone are processed on your device and never sent to us. Your clips stay on your device until you choose to share them.
YipYappy is made by Beyond the Grove LLC ("Beyond the Grove", "we", "us"). This policy explains how the YipYappy app for iPhone and iPad and the yipyappy.com website handle information. If you have questions, email hello@yipyappy.com.
What we collect
We do not collect personal information through the app. There is no sign-up, and the app does not include advertising, analytics or tracking tools. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Camera and face data
In Live Face and Pro Studio's Face mode, YipYappy uses the front camera on devices with Face ID (the TrueDepth camera) to follow your expressions and head movement so a character can copy them. This uses Apple's ARKit face tracking and happens entirely on your device.
- What is used: live estimates of facial expressions (such as how open your mouth or eyes are) and head position, read frame by frame while the mode is open.
- How it is used: only to animate your character in real time. It is not used to identify you, for authentication, for advertising or for any other purpose.
- Storage and sharing: face data and camera images are never recorded, stored or sent anywhere, including to us or any third party. Only the animated character appears in clips you record.
The camera is only on while you are in those modes. Kids Mode never uses the camera. You can turn off camera access at any time in the Settings app.
Microphone
The microphone lets your character's mouth move when you talk. Sound is analyzed on your device. Audio is only saved when you record a clip, and it is saved as part of that clip on your device. It is never sent to us.
Photos, videos, music and files
- Choosing a photo or video (for a background, frame, picture character or a video's sound) uses Apple's private picker, so YipYappy only receives the items you pick. Finding the face and cutting out a picture happen on your device. A copy of what you pick is kept inside the app on your device.
- Your music library: if you choose a song from the Music app, YipYappy asks for access and uses only the song you pick, copied into the app on your device. Songs protected by Apple Music can't be used and are not accessed.
- Sounds and files you pick from Files, or share to YipYappy from another app such as Voice Memos, are copied into the app on your device and are not sent anywhere.
- Saving to Photos uses add-only access: the app can add your clips to your library but cannot see the rest of it.
Your clips and characters
Clips you record, trim or join, characters you build or save, and pictures you turn into characters are stored on your device. They leave your device only when you share them, for example to a social app or messages, and then that service's policies apply. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Characters, scenes, frames and music
The app downloads its characters, scenes, frames, looks and background music from yipyappy.com. These downloads do not include anything about you. As with any website, the server that hosts these files may keep standard technical logs, such as the IP address of the request, the time and the file requested, for security and reliability.
Optional AI voices from ElevenLabs
AI Voice includes free on-device voices that never leave your device. You can also choose to use ElevenLabs, a third-party voice service, with your own ElevenLabs account. Before anything is sent, the app asks for your permission. If you allow it, the app sends your script, your chosen voice and your ElevenLabs API key directly to ElevenLabs to create the audio. We never receive your script or key; your key is stored in your device's Keychain. ElevenLabs' privacy policy applies to what you send. You can turn this off at any time in the app under You › Privacy. Kids Mode does not use ElevenLabs.
Image Playground
On devices that support Apple Intelligence, you can create a character with Apple's Image Playground. Apple provides this feature, and Apple's privacy policy applies to it.
Children
YipYappy is designed to be safe for all ages. Kids Mode never uses the camera, and sharing from Kids Mode is behind a grown-up check. Because we do not collect personal information, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
This website
yipyappy.com has no sign-up, forms, advertising or analytics of our own. Our web host may add a small performance-monitoring script to pages and keep standard server logs; these are used to keep the site running and are not used by us to identify you.
Your choices
You can turn camera, microphone, music and photo access on or off at any time in the Settings app. Because your content is stored only on your device, you can delete it in the app (for example from Clips), or delete everything by deleting the app.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the effective date above.
